Completion of the Intensive Greek Language Learning Program with the participation of students from Australia and South Korea.

The Greek language learning program, implemented by the Center for the Study of the Hellenic Language and Culture (HeLaS) of the DIKEPPEE “Stavros Niarchos” of the University of Ioannina, was successfully completed in a particularly warm atmosphere. The program was attended by students from Australia and South Korea and was funded by the Macquarie Greek Studies Foundation.

The closing ceremony took place at the Frondzou Politia restaurant, in a particularly beautiful and emotional setting. The students received their certificates of attendance, thus marking the successful completion of the program.

The event was honored by the presence of the President of the HeLaS, Vice-Rector for International Relations, Global Engagement and Lifelong Learning, and Scientific Director of the Program, Mr. Xenophon Bitsikas; the Dean of the School of Education and Academic Director of the Program, Ms. Nikoletta Tsitsanoudi-Mallidi; the Head of the DIKEPPEE “Stavros Niarchos,” Ms. Vasiliki Panteli; as well as the teaching and administrative staff, who consistently and dedicatedly supported the implementation of the program.

The program constituted a unique experience of linguistic and cultural immersion for the students, who traveled from the other side of the world to experience firsthand the Greek language, history, and culture of our country. During their stay in Epirus, they had the opportunity to combine systematic instruction with educational excursions and experiential activities, such as traditional dance lessons offered by the Laboratory of Language, Folklore & Culture of the Department of Primary Education, under the supervision of the Associate Professor Mr. Christos Papakostas, thereby substantially enhancing their linguistic competence and intercultural understanding.

The successful completion of the initiative confirms the outward-looking orientation of the University of Ioannina and its role as a bridge connecting Hellenism worldwide, strengthening ties with the academic communities of Australia and South Korea. HeLaS continues to serve as a point of reference for the teaching of Greek as a foreign/second language, promoting the Greek language and culture at an international level.

The completion of the program leaves the best impressions and creates solid foundations for the continuation and expansion of cooperation in the future.
