Aiming to enhance the extroversion and foster stronger links between the University of Ioannina, the city, and the local community, a significant infrastructure intervention has been successfully completed at the “Dimitrios Glaros” Amphitheater of the DIKEPPEE “Stavros Niarchos.”This initiative effectively revitalizes one of the University’s most distinctive event spaces, which now gains new dynamic as a center of attraction, collaboration, and cultural creativity.
The renovation works have significantly improved both the acoustic quality and the overall aesthetics of the amphitheater, transforming it into a multifunctional venue capable of hosting conferences, seminars, examinations, as well as art exhibitions and cultural events.
More specifically, the project involved the following interventions:
- The installation of specialized soundproofing and fire-retardant fabric on the ceiling, aimed at improving both the acoustics and the aesthetics of the space.
- Wooden panels with movable elements were installed, not only to improve sound insulation but also to facilitate the hanging of artworks, enabling the amphitheater to function as an exhibition venue.
- Specially specified carpeting was installed, complementing the overall design and further improving the amphitheater’s acoustics.
The renewed “Dimitrios Glaros” Amphitheater now offers a modern and warm atmosphere, enriching the experience of everyone who visits, from students and researchers to faculty and cultural event attendees.
The upgrading forms part of the University of Ioannina’s continuous efforts to enhance its facilities and transform its spaces into vibrant centers of education, science, culture, and community engagement.
